Who are we?

We are a group of parents / grandparents / carers who meet once a month to support the school and pupils in any way we can.  We discuss and input to school documents eg, school plan, we work with the school to support the continuous improvement work in the classrooms and sometimes (more often than we would have liked over the last few years) have been represented on the panel of interviewers for Head Teacher interviews.  We hold various fun events for the kids eg. Halloween Disco / Christmas Ball / Summer fete and we fundraise eg. Bingo Tea / candle party / sports events.  We often receive kind and generous donations from school families and the community.

Fundraising / Where has your money gone?

Thousands have been raised over the years via fundraising and donations and this has helped the school and the kids in so many ways, contributing towards school trips, costumes for pantomime, sports equipment, wood work bench, refurbishing the corridor so that each child has their own peg and pigeon hole for shoes, outside classroom, trim trail, music equipment, food and ingredients for cooking lessons, new medals/trophies and coming very soon … iPads! … the list goes on.  All helping the school to give our kids fantastic experiences. It’s only the kids who benefit and we ensure a fair split of funding across the classes.  This is an excellent achievement and makes a big difference to our school.

Get your views heard

Let us represent your view - contact any of the committee members by letter / email / text / at the school gate or get in touch with the school if there is an issue you would like raised or you want to offer support in any way. Of course anything specific about your own child should be dealt with through school but anything more generic about classes / handbook / homework / whatever can be raised and discussed at our meetings. It would be great to get more representation from parents at the meetings – everyone is welcomed and there is always tea, coffee and biscuits :)

A reminder – why do we do what we do?

The point of Friends of Pitcairn is simply to represent parents and support the school. Through the fundraising we can pay for things to make the school a better place, like the trim trail, but also to be able to reduce the price of outings for the kids and bringing other groups to the school.  As well as happy times for the kids also helping to embed Curriculum for Excellence and learning outside the class room. Through the educational side we are involved in the interview process for the new Head, discussions with the council on improvements needed to the school building, meeting with The Parent Council Forum across Perth and Kinross to share ideas etc.  PKC had agreed to the removal of the Almondbank pedestrian crossing to make car spaces, I am glad to say this work has been stopped after our group complained to the local councillor so our children will keep their safe place to cross.

AGM / Election of new committee members

The AGM will be held in August after the summer break,  We really need representatives from each school year so please do come along.  Bring the little ones and let them have some fun in the reading den. Our time working with the school and fundraising has been very enjoyable and has shown the issues the school faces from a completely different angle.  Look forward to seeing you there.
